About Indiana State University

Since 1865, Indiana State has provided excellent and affordable education to all. We believe that with hard work and the right opportunities, our students can change the world.

Our world-class undergraduate majors, graduate programs, and online degree and certificate options challenge our students to experiment, collaborate, and grow inside and outside the classroom. We help them to dream big so they can achieve their goals and make an impact, whether here in the Midwest or halfway around the globe.

Diverse Student Body

Our students make Indiana State a choice destination for college. Some come from rural communities, others attended large, urban high schools, and many live in suburban areas. Nearly half of our undergraduates are first-generation college students. This means our students learn from the diverse experiences of their classmates, find new perspectives, and make lifelong friendships.

A diverse group of students smiles at the camera while packing food at a volunteer event. They are all wearing hairnets and shirts that say “Making a Difference Begins With Blue.” Other students are visible working in the background.

In and For the Community

Indiana State University is committed to serving and supporting west-central Indiana. We have partnerships with businesses and nonprofits in Terre Haute and surrounding areas, which include business engagement, volunteer activities, and event services. Our students participate in service-learning activities, internships, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
